I work at Hobby Lobby and here are a few extra hints and tips to help your shopping experience better for everyone! Corporate has now made a policy that you can no longer use your 40%off coupon on items that are already on sale. The 40% off coupon can save you tons, so always try to use it it applies to almost any one item in the store (read the fine print some items are excluded!) Oh and ALWAYS read the ENTIRE sales sign!! Big issue as a cashier! It will make bother our lives easier!!! If there is a YELLOW PRICE STICKER, that is ALWAYS you final price!

Here's some Hobby Lobby info for you all. Anything with "Group" on the label almost always starts off at %50 off when it comes into the store. Very, very rarely it will be out a regular price for maybe a week, but that almost never happens.

Sales are on a rotating cycle. Generally it is a two week rotation in smaller departments like Art and Hobby, and Floral, with a three week rotation in larger departments such as Home Accents, and Crafts. However, some items in the departments stick to the general 2 week rotation on sales.

Cards and party is expensive, like she said. That also includes seasonal items, generally the ads will say something along the lines of "Excludes Candy, Plates, Napkins" etc. Not to say they won't ever go on sale, it is just usually for less than everything else. Candy only goes on sale when the holiday is over.

If an item is damaged, they will claim to give you an additional 10% off. Be warned though, if an item is %50 off and they give you an additional %10 it is not 60% off the item. They take the sale off and then do the %10. So, in the end you are only actually getting %5 more.

They will try to sell broken items. Some employees hate this and will just toss the items that are essentially trash, some don't, so be careful looking through the clearance sections. Sometimes they will even glue an item back together and put it out with regular stock.

The framing department has decent sales. The posters there are garbage though. So are most of the photo frames, but at half off the tag, the nicer ones aren't priced too bad. But they are ALWAYS half off, same with the posters, so don't be fooled. Custom framing is half off comparable stores. Generally this actually holds true. Most other stores will try to gut your wallet on custom framing orders. Be aware that even though it seems expensive, it is better than most places.

On the subject of custom framing, we had crap equipment to work with, it continually wanted to cut slight curves on the corners. It is a pain. Most people will try to do their best to make it look good. Some are lazy. Do not come in with a complicated project and ask for it to be done that day. Just don't. Anti-glare glass is junk. Museum is pretty but expensive. Although it is stated that coupons can't be used on custom framing, they can be used on an item on a custom framing ticket. So on a mat or on the glass.

Never buy wall frames, anything in home accents, paper studio items, or floral/bridal items, at full price. These will all regularly go 50% off.

Now some other stuff: (tl;dr be nice to employees, it sucks working retail)

Items will be mixed in on different shelves. If you are literate enough to read that something is on sale, read under the number where it specifies exactly what.

Do not complain to employees about what corporate does. They don't care about what they have to say. Email customer service directly.

Do not ask them if the music gets annoying. After a few weeks/months they tune it out, but now you've made them notice it again. They will now inwardly hate you for the next few days as they fight to tune it out again.

A twelve foot Christmas tree does not fit in a Prius.

That furniture does look dangerous displayed on the wall. We are scared to death trying to bring it back down.

Most of that furniture is over priced garbage. Most, not all.

If you see someone carrying something that looks heavy, don't ask them to take you to something. You CAN ask if they could help you when they are done.

There is almost always too little staff.

The only department where you will find someone somewhat trained in what that department carries is floral and framing.

Employees have to walk you up when you get something out of the case. It's as awkward for them as it is for you. But people steal. ALL. THE. TIME.

They can't scan anything at the register. Yes it sucks. Of course it is horrible for inventory. Please stop mentioning it.

If something breaks, just tell us. Employees break stuff all the time on accident. Half the store is breakable and stacked terribly. Keep your kids away from stuff that looks like it might fall over, it probably will at some point.

If you change your mind on an item, hand it to a cashier. Don't stuff it on the shelf with the candy.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet but I always like to bring a friend or my husband when I shop at Hobby Lobby and check out separately, that way we get to use the 40% off coupon twice.

Shop the clearance section. Things there are dirt cheap. They also take competitor's coupons and match their sale price as long as you have the store ad.

Can't wait for our new Hobby Lobby to open and also our new Home Goods! If you are near an Army base, which we are, most of our stores honor the 10% military discount.
